Muriel’s holiday with her children and grandchildren received an unexpected jolt when she had to go into the Intensive Care Unit at the University of Washington Medical Center. She was suffering from internal bleeding. Colonoscopies and numerous other tests were performed. Surgery was mulled. Her nervousness was palpable. In the midst of it all, her grandson (who's also the editor of this blog) was amazed when she kept mumbling about the many waivers she had to sign before each procedure was performed. Though her bewilderment subsided after she was released—thankfully she was able to enjoy a turkey dinner with her loved ones—she still sounded dismayed over the current medical liability climate.
